A Break

i'll be taking a break from blogging for a bit.

i'll leave you with this

video

did i ever tell you about that time a year ago i found out i was pregnant?
first of all,
i was visiting santa barbara for my girls' graduation.
second of all,
grant hadn't come with me so he was in seattle.
i would like to say that i waited from when i found out on saturday until seeing him on tuesday,
but who are we kidding?
no one can keep a secret like that from the person that helped make it happen.

i got into sb on friday night,
went straight to my best friend's dad's 60th celebration,
enjoyed some (more than some) wine,
briefly lamented with another friend about our mutual surprise at not having gotten pregnant the second we went off the pill,
and headed home for the night.

on saturday i was browsing through anthropologie with my sister and steve.
i started thinking that i should pick up a pregnancy test.
just in case.
i jetted on over to cvs,
used the public restroom,
and sure enough.
two lines.

that night i was vid chattin with grant and said,
"oh guess what?"
and showed him the test.
least exciting way to tell your husband.
still,
he was trilled/baffled/smiling.

anyway,
1 year later and i think we're both pretty pleased with the outcome.

ps. the friend who i was lamenting with?
here we are holding each others girls.

corinne, svea, vera, me.

What's Been Cooking

i'm feeling a touch lazy right now,
so all i can say is that
1. grant cooked this pasta
2. it was delicious (really, any meal with a raw egg added is ok by me)

and
3. i think we know where these fatty meals are going

A Phone

i had a phone upgrade the other day.
felt like i'd been waiting my whole life for it.
that's what we call 1st world problems.

i knew i was going to get an iphone after having a samsung fascinate
(aka the worst smart phone ever).
i must have visited the verizon store 11 times due to problems with my fascinate.

however, when d-day came to get a new phone,
i decided on the htc rezound.
why? and why the heck should you care?
1. because it's a better phone
2. you shouldn't

the only reasons i could think of for getting an iphone was because it's cool
and everybody seems to have one.
honestly,
what other reasons are there?

the price is the same (for the iphone 4s 16g ... add 100 bones for 32g, add 200 for 64g),
the megapixels on the cameras are the same,
and they all have instagram now, which is really all that anyone cares about, right?

maybe i'll regret my decision in a few months,
but maybe i would anyway since apple comes out with a better phone every few weeks.

for now i feel pretty good about having 4G, GPS, and instagram.

svea feels good about it too.

what doesn't feel good are chunky legs fitting into tight bumbo spaces.

Gig Harbor

i realize mother's day was ages ago,
but here is what we did.

saturday late afternoon:
"so, what is the plan for tomorrow?" - me
"uhhh." - grant

needless to say there was a "discussion"
involving passive-aggressive phrases like,
"being more prepared."

grant was able to pull something up.
he found a little restaurant about an hour south in a quaint area called gig harbor.
we had a great meal, free champagne, and a walk.
all in all, a lovely first mother's day.

i made her be my twin. matching coral pants and everything.
wouldn't you birth his baby? don't answer that.
rainier in all of her glory.

we also churched it in the afternoon,
much to my father's delight.
we used the prayer chapel as svea's personal cry room.
except she doesn't cry,
so it was more of a room for exceptionally loud breastfeeding.

A Graduation

justine is our little sister.
not genetically per say,
but in every other way.

she has been a huge part of our lives for some time now.
she watched grant and i date.
she came with us to boston when we got engaged.
and we shared almost two weeks with her here in seattle.

grant and i both love justine dearly.
it was the obvious choice to go home for her college graduation.
svea will always know her as auntie j.

do you have someone in your life like that?
if not,
get one.
now.

 the graduate
 family
 the sun was simply excruciating
 big sister duties
 friends
 just a couple of farmers
 auntie j
the red house ladies: marie, justine, caitlin, and cailee

things i did not anticipate when going to a college graduation:
1) running into my cousin's wife, who just happens to be one of my favorite people in the world
2) svea pooping through her diaper in the first 10 minutes of graduation all over my dear friend elisa and her turquoise dress
3) a second blowout, but due to blow out #1 she was only in her diaper this time and my sister just barely escaped it's wrath

(note to self: always best to willingly hand your baby to someone else if you've been eating loquats and your child is at risk of filling her diaper to capacity)
